Here is a recipe for dog treats that are healthy and delicious. These tend to be a little delicate and are favored for special training
Peanut Butter Tots
1 c. all natural crunchy peanut butter
1/4 c. honey
2 c. chicken broth or water
1/3 c. peanut oil
1 c. oat bran
1 c. rolled oats
3-4 c. oat flour
Preheat oven to 350 ° F (180 ° C).
In a large saucepan over medium heat, mix honey, peanut oil, peanut butter and chicken broth. Stir often, until mixture begins to simmer. Remove from the heat and then stir in rolled oats and oat bran and let cool enough to work with. Gradually add in oat flour, adding just enough to form stiff dough.
Transfer to a floured surface and knead until smooth (about 3-5 minutes). Shape the dough into a ball, and roll out to a ¼ in. (6 mm) thick. Cut into small squares or use a cookie cutter. Place on a non greased baking sheets, spacing them about 1/4 in. (6 mm) apart. If the dough gets a little crumbly while working with it, add a little water to bind it together and knead it for about 30 seconds.
Bake for 30 minutes on one side and then remove from oven to turn them over. Bake for an additional 30 minutes, or until golden brown on both sides. After you finished all the baking, turn off the oven and spread all the biscuits on one baking sheet and set them in the oven to cool for a few hours or overnight. This makes the treats crispier.
This recipe for dog treats makes several dozen small homemade treats that keep and freeze well.
